What never leaves your device

Camera frames. The live light meter analyses camera frames entirely on your iPhone. Frames are never uploaded, never stored, and never used for anything other than the live exposure readout and the Pro scopes (histogram, waveform, zebra).

Preferences and gear library. Your selected cameras, lenses, and app settings are stored locally on your device.

Diagnostics. The optional Telemetry toggle in Settings records anonymous, sanitized event names in the app's local log only. Nothing is transmitted to us or to third parties.

What is sent to our servers, and when

Only the AI features transmit data. When you use an AI advisor (Camera Advisor, Lens Advisor, Scene + Lens Fusion, Exposure Tutor, Composition Advisor, Color Grading Advisor, Lighting Blueprint, Meter Advisor) or type in the gear search fields, the app sends the following to our backend (Cloudflare Workers at photometerpro-ai.catalin-74b.workers.dev):

the camera brand and model you selected or typed;
the lens name and its technical specs (mount, focal range, aperture);
the scene, subject, or creative-intent text you typed into the advisor;
your app language (locale) and chosen experience level;
live meter EV when an advisor uses scene context (no image data).

Our backend forwards this request to OpenAI to generate the advice and returns the answer to the app. The OpenAI API key lives on the server, never in the app.

We do not send photos, camera frames, your name, email address, contacts, location, advertising identifiers, or any account identifier. AI requests are not linked to your identity, are not used for advertising, and are not used to track you across apps or websites.

iCloud sync (Pro)

If you purchase Pro and are signed in to iCloud, your selected gear syncs through your private CloudKit database. That data is stored in your personal iCloud account under Apple's terms; we have no access to it.

Purchases

The Pro unlock is a one-time purchase processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Purchase status is verified on-device with StoreKit and used only to unlock paid features.

Third parties

We use Cloudflare (request routing for the AI backend) and OpenAI (generating AI advice from the gear and scene details listed above). There are no advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no trackers in the app.

Data retention and your choices

The AI backend does not maintain user accounts and does not store request history keyed to you. You can use the entire light meter without ever invoking the AI features — in that case no data leaves your device. Deleting the app deletes all locally stored data; gear synced to your private iCloud can be removed from your iCloud account.
